چکیده

It has been claimed that people often prefer equity-like considerations and tend to ignore strategic aspects in fair division problems. Here, this is explored by analyzing whether or not such a behavioral disposition is evolutionarily stable. The answer, however, is ambiguous: Both, reacting to and neglecting strategic aspects can be evolutionarily stable strategies when power discrepancies are minor. Equity, in particular, is restricted to situations where structural asymmetries are subtle. ∗Max Planck Institute for Research into Economic Systems, Strategic Interaction Group, Kahlaische Str. 1, 07745 Jena, Germany †Institute of Labour Law and Industrial Relations in the EC, PO-Box 18 12 30, D-54263 Trier, Germany

Evolutionary psychology is compatible with equity feminism, but not with gender feminism: a reply to Eagly and Wood (2011).

I comment on Eagly and Wood's biosocial constructionist evolutionary theory (2011; DOI: 10.1007/s11199-011-9949-9). Although this gender feminist theory allows for evolved physical differences between men and women and evolved psychological similarities for men and women, it fails to consider evolutionary accounts of psychological sex differences. I hypothesize that gender feminists' reluctance...

Solving ‎‎‎Multi-objective Optimal Control Problems of chemical ‎processes ‎using ‎Hybrid ‎Evolutionary ‎Algorithm

Evolutionary algorithms have been recognized to be suitable for extracting approximate solutions of multi-objective problems because of their capability to evolve a set of non-dominated solutions distributed along the Pareto frontier‎. ‎This paper applies an evolutionary optimization scheme‎, ‎inspired by Multi-objective Invasive Weed Optimization (MOIWO) and Non-dominated Sorting (NS) strategi...

Tree-Based Indirect Encodings for Evolutionary Development of Neural Networks

This paper focuses on TWEANN (Topology and Weight Evolving Artificial Neural Network) methods based on indirect developmental encodings. TWEANNs are Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs) which evolve both topology and parameters (weights) of neural networks. Indirect developmental encoding is an approach inspired by multi-cellular organisms’ development from a single cell (zygote) known from Nature. Th...

A Taxonomy for Artificial Embryogeny

A major challenge for evolutionary computation is to evolve phenotypes such as neural networks, sensory systems, or motor controllers at the same level of complexity as found in biological organisms. In order to meet this challenge, many researchers are proposing indirect encodings, that is, evolutionary mechanisms where the same genes are used multiple times in the process of building a phenot...

The co-evolution of multiply-informed dispersal: information transfer across landscapes from neighbors and immigrants

Dispersal plays a key role in natural systems by shaping spatial population and evolutionary dynamics. Dispersal has been largely treated as a population process with little attention to individual decisions and the influence of information use on the fitness benefits of dispersal despite clear empirical evidence that dispersal behavior varies among individuals. While information on local densi...
